Introduction:
RuneScape
is a online interactive fantasy game with hundreds of thousands of
players, some who obsess and play every day (or who want to), then you
have the people who play it because they have nothing better to do.
In RuneScape you become a character in the game. RuneScape is a
extremely large island with many other small ones close by. You can
learn more about what ever skill you want, you can go any where and do
almost what ever you want, but you have to follow the rules.
This is guide that will help you understand the different combat styles and how and where they work best.
Skills:
Skills
are the essential levels that let you do things. All levels start at
level 1. To get to level 2 you need 83 exp (experience), level 3
174exp, level 4 276, level 99 13011162exp. As you can see they get
progressively harder. When you gain a level (by getting the certain
amount of exp needed) a picture will pop-up like this:
This is only a picture of when you gain a range level and when you
gain a level to a different skill the pop-up will look different.
Currency:
In RuneScape the currency is gp (gold pieces). In the real world, a
RuneScape gold piece would be worth 0.001 of a penny. I calculated this
based on the fact that you can buy 1 million gold pieces for only $10.
The reason that almost no one buys the RuneScape gp is because if you
are caught “real world item trading” you will be banned from using your
account.
Banning\rules:
This is the official list of
things that an account on RuneScape can get banned for a certain amount
of time or gets the account disabled.
Rule 1 - Offensive Language You must not use any language which may be considered offensive, racist or obscene. This includes swearing.
Rule 2 - Item Scamming
You must not scam or deceive other players. Lying to other players
for your own personal gain is not in the spirit of the game.
Rule 3 - Password Scamming
Asking/trying to persuade another player to give you their password
for any reason is against the rules and will not be tolerated.
Rule 4 - Cheating/Bug Abuse You must not use or attempt to use any cheats or errors which you find in our software.
Any exploits which you find must be immediately reported to Jagex through Customer Support.
Rule 5 - Jagex Staff Impersonation You should not attempt to impersonate Jagex staff in any way, for any reason.
Rule 6 - Account Sharing/Trading Each account should only be used by ONE person. Account sharing is NOT allowed.
Rule 7 – Macroing
You must not attempt to use other programs (e.g. bots, macros or
autominers) in conjunction with our games to give yourself an unfair
advantage at the game. You also may not circumvent any of our
mechanisms designed to log out inactive users automatically.
Rule 8 - Multiple Logging-In
You may create more than one RuneScape account, but if you do, you
may not log in more than one account at any time, and they must not
interact with each other in any way. This includes 'drop trading' or
any other method of item transfer.
Rule 9 - Encouraging Others to Break Rules You must not encourage others to break any of the RuneScape rules.
Rule 10 - False Representations
You must not misuse RuneScape Customer Support. This includes
threatening or reporting an innocent person, supplying false
information and abusing Jagex staff.
Rule 11 - Advertising/Website You are not allowed to actively advertise in the RuneScape game or RuneScape forums.
Rule 12 - Real World Item Trading RuneScape items must only be exchanged for other items/services within the game.
Rule 13 - Asking for Personal Details
For our players' privacy and safety, you must not ask for personal
contact details such as full name, home address or telephone number
from another player.
Rule 14 - Misuse of Official Forums You
must not misuse our Official RuneScape Forums. The forum code of
conduct (linked at the top of the forums) clearly details exactly what
is and what is not acceptable behavior.
Rule 15 - Advert Blocking You must not deliberately block or hide the adverts which appear above the free version of our game.
Rules are from ©1999 - 2006 Jagex Ltd.
Combat:
The way you fight in RuneScape depends on your weapon. You hit your
opponent once every 3-6 seconds, you continue hitting them until either
your or their health reaches 0 (or one of you runs/teleports away).
Magic:
There are many spells you can cast, some help others some deal
damage to others. Depending on your level you can cast a certain
amount/type of spells. The higher your level the better the spells you
can cast become.
This is the table of all the spells:

The highlighted ones are spells that you have the runes and magic
level to cast. Runes are the basis of all spells. They are made from
the skill rune crafting (player made) or bought in a store. The higher
level the spell the more runes it takes to cast (or the runes are worth
more). When buying runes they can cost any where from 20gp-500gp each.
Some spells requires 2-3 runes that are worth 500gp each. To cast only
1 spell. You receive more exp for each cast of this type of spell.
Attack, Defense and Strength:
These are the three basic combat skills that let you use and hold
certain types of armor and weapons (bronze, iron, steel…), you get 4
exp (experience) for every 1 damage you deal (if you hit a “5” you get
20 exp). You choose which one of the skills you train by clicking on
the combat style you want to use:
Weapon:
Your weapon is the current item you are wielding and attack with (if unarmed it will say “unarmed”)
Combat Level:
This is what all your levels that are involved in combat make up; it is your combat level (a lot like an over-all level)
Current attack style:
Depending on your attack style you will do more or less damage with
that specific weapon, your attack style determines what skill you train
(attack, strength or defense), but if there is more then 3 options,
then usually “slash” is the one that gives a little to each instead of
just one.
Special attack bar:
Special attacks are attacks that do more damage then the normal attack, they do interesting move to do so.
Auto retaliate This means that when a monster attacks you, you will automatically retaliate and hit them back.
Range (archery):
This is the skill level that lets you hold and use certain bows
(each bow allows you to use a certain level of arrow) and armor
(granted you have the defense level to where it). Short bows shoot
faster, but they don’t do as much damage. This is good for fighting
because you hit them every 3 seconds. Long bows are slow, but they do
more damage. This is good for training because you don’t have to use as
many arrows. When using range it is always good to find a spot where
you can hit monsters but they can’t hit you. An example of this is
attacking a bigger higher level monster. Because an arrow can go
through a small space but the monster can’t:

Do not attack monsters with a range attack because it can attack you
from every where that you can attack it. When you are trying to kill
some thing the best attack style for a short bow is rapid:

For a long bow accurate is best. Though it takes slightly longer it
does more damage. Long ranged is used for things that are farther away
(long bows go further then short bows), this also trains defense
because you are far away and staying as far away as possible.
Prayer:
Prayer
is the level that lets you have the ability to pray for some thing.
Depending on your level you can pray for different things, some
increase your attack and some make you immune to magic attacks. You
train prayer by burying bones from monsters you kill. Different types
of bones give you different amounts of exp. This is a picture of all
the things you can pray for:
Immune prayersThese are prayers that protect you from that type of attack entirely.
LevelThis
allows you to see what level you are, the number on the left side of
the / is how many prayer points you have left. When using a prayer it
will drain your prayer points.
UnableThe prayers that aren’t highlighted are the ones you are unable to use (which means you need a higher prayer level).
Strategy:
The Combat Triangle is:
range beats mage, mage beats melee, melee beats range.
So
If you go into an area where you are facing multiple opponents with
more then one type of attacks, the you should bring all attack styles
with you. Because if you forget one type then when you face the type
that beats is you will most likely die. Good places to train only have
one type of attack even if there is multiple different types of
monsters, there is only one attack style.
Final Thoughts
RuneScape is an amazing and complex game and I have briefly touched on
the ways of combat. So I hope this guide has helped you gain knowledge
about the game either in the aspect that you now know about it or you
now know some thing more about it.
